Abrasion Resistance
Abrasion resistance is one of the most sought-after properties for coating and ink applications.
Oligomers are the bulk component of a UV/EB curable formulation and therefore determine its main properties. Urethane methacrylates and urethane acrylates provide the best balance between adhesion, hardness, flexibility, weatherability, abrasion, and chemical resistance. Many of these properties are due to the intermolecular hydrogen bonding ability of urethane groups.
Urethane (meth)acrylates are suitable for high-grade interior and exterior applications. The main applications are in coatings for metals and plastics as well as coatings for high-quality furniture and flooring. They are also often used in overprint varnishes (OPVs) and offset and screen inks. The properties of these oligomers provide a high gloss finish.
